President Alvi returns Islamabad LG Regulation Invoice unsigned

ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi has returned the ICT Native Authorities (Modification) Invoice, 2022 unsigned by way of clause (1) (b) of Article 75 of the Structure.

The President returned the Islamabad Capital Territory Native Authorities (Modification) Invoice unsigned observing that it could additional delay the Native Authorities elections.

“Actions of the Federal Authorities taken in hurry on resulted in delaying election course of twice, which was anathema to democracy,” President Secretariat in a press launch on Sunday quoted the president as saying.

It was additional said, “elections couldn’t be held in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) as a result of malafide actions of the federal authorities.

After completion of delimitation of fifty Union Councils, Election Fee of Pakistan (ECP) introduced elections of native councils in ICT. Regardless of announcement of polling date, the federal government enhanced the variety of union councils from 50 to 101, ensuing into
postponement of elections, President Alvi said.

After demarcation of 101 Union Councils, ECP determined to carry elections in capital territory on thirty first December 2022, the president stated.

“Part 2 of present Invoice offers for 125 Union Councils within the ICT, subsequently, elections scheduled for thirty first December 2022 have been once more postponed,” he stated.

In part 3 of the present invoice, mode of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections has been modified after announcement of the election schedule, he noticed.
