ECP seeks extra Rs14bn for conducting basic election

ISLAMABAD: The Election Fee of Pakistan (ECP) has sought Rs14 billion extra grant for assembly the final election s bills.

In a written correspondence with the ministry of finance, the electoral watchdog states that an additional quantity will likely be wanted for the final elections along with by-elections on the vacant seats of the Nationwide Meeting (NA), Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The ECP has pleaded that the price of the final election has been elevated from Rs47 billion to Rs61 billion, whereas an quantity of Rs25bn out of Rs47bn is required on speedy foundation.

The electoral watchdog has already obtained Rs5bn and is looking for Rs20bn forthwith.

The Election Fee of Pakistan (ECP) proposed dates for holding elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Election Fee wrote letters to principal secretaries of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governors in regards to the polling day.

The ECP has advised to carry basic elections in Punjab on any date between 9 April to 13 April whereas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa it proposed polling day on any day between 15 April to 17 April.

The governors will determine in regards to the last date for polling and inform the ECP.

The Election Fee of Pakistan on Tuesday had stated that it was prepared to carry elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. An essential assembly was held on this connection on the ECP below the chair of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.

The assembly was informed that preparations relating to organising of polling stations and voters’ lists had been made. The CEC directed to spur efforts for conducting the polls in each the provinces.

The assembly determined to launch the election schedule after governors of each the provinces would give their polling dates.

The assembly was attended by the ECP members, provincial election commissioners and officers of all of the wings of the fee.

The assembly mulled over the preparations for the election in Punjab and KP provinces in addition to by-polls on the vacant seats.
The CEC requested the authorities to expedite appointments of presiding officers and different polling employees for the elections.
