MARCELLA season three is finally here, and fans have been avidly watching the new series.
But before the credits played out after episode two aired, the production team paid tribute to the late Alex Browne. Here’s what we know about him…
Who was Alex Browne on Marcella?
Alex Browne was a young man from Northern Ireland who worked with the production company who produced Marcella.
He was a ranger in the Royal Irish Regiment from from 2000 – 2006.
The Belfast Telegraph reported that Browne took his own life on July 12, 2020.
Responding to the deaths of both Browne and another young man who served in the Royal Irish, Ulster Unionist Party MLA Doug Beattie said: “The loss of these two young men so close together is absolutely devastating,”
“I feel it personally, these are people I served with so I feel the loss deeply. They received support but the demons overcame them.”
On a tribute page made for Browne, he is described as “professional and dedicated”.
It says Browne “was a good role model for the younger troops, he has contributed a lot to the community and his country he will be forever remembered as a great icon.”
One acquaintance commented on the page: “It’s with great sadness that I say my old Army buddy Alex Browne has passed away. Alex was professional and dedicated and a good role model for the younger troops!”
Why did ITV pay tribute to him?
Season 3 of Marcella premiered on ITV on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.
The tribute came after the second episode of the series, which sees Marcella reborn as a blonde named Keira Devlin, on a mission to infiltrate and expose Belfast’s notorious Maguire family.
A black card appeared just before the credits played out, with the simple message: “In loving memory of Alex Browne”.
A curious user on Twitter asked “Who’s Alex Browne?”
Browne’s sister responded: “He’s my older brother. He sadly passed away in July 2020.
“He worked with the production company who produced Marcella (alongside many other shows that are filmed in NI).
“They wanted to pay tribute to him.”
